Our Story

Chapter One:

Pop always loved moving parts. He thought Watermills were just fascinating to see in action, and as an engineer myself, I could see why. Mom was the best mom anyone could ask for and she fully supported every dream us kids came up with, including being a donut maker! This is where my story begins. I started making donuts in my high school years, and Pop thought they were the best around. He always referred to me as a “Dough Master”. Although I laughed it off at the time, he truly was serious and he believed in my abilities.

Chapter Two:

Unfortunately, Pop became sick in 2017 due to chemotherapy complications. My sister and I spent a month in the hospital watching over him. We spent endless hours talking to him about opening up a donut shop, which was a huge dream of his, to keep him distracted from what he was going through. Toward the end of Pop’s struggles, he looked at me and said, “Son, I think we’d do better with a Pizzeria…and why not have it where folks can come and enjoy live entertainment too!?” Shortly after this conversation, we lost Pop to his illness.

Chapter Three:

My mom, siblings, and myself decided to build The MillHouse Pizzeria and Stage in Pops honor. We chose for the location to be in the center of downtown Garland, Texas, which is where I grew up with my siblings, Mom, and Pop. We found the perfect building, which was built in the late 1800’s, to set up shop. We just loved the vibe and the history behind this building, and we thought it was something Pop would have certainly approved of too.

Chapter Four:

Shortly after beginning the interior construction of our pizzeria, Mom became extremely ill. We lost her kind and supportive soul in February 2018. Upon Mom’s passing, my siblings and I found an old picture of her standing beside a watermill in Mississippi from 1959. This only solidified our reasonings and desires to name our pizzeria “The MillHouse Pizzeria and Stage”, as if it was divine reassurance. When you visit our pizzeria, be sure and ask to see “Mom’s Room”. This room is our private party room, and was designed by Mom before she passed. You will also see the inspirational picture of Mom next to the watermill featured in our restaurant.

Chapter Five:

Here at The MillHouse Pizzeria and Stage, we strive to bring you quality food, service, and entertainment, but we also want you to be a part of our family and ongoing journey. The next chapter of our story is unknown, as it has not been written yet. Our loyal customers, who we refer to as our “extended family”, are the people who will determine the next chapter of our story.
