The Board of Directors for the Galena Festival of the Performing Arts has cancelled the Festival performances which had been scheduled for July 15 -17 of 2021. After having to cancel in 2020, it was a particularly difficult decision to cancel the Festival for this year. However, the health and safety of our audience, performers, and volunteers is the Festival Board's primary concern. Even though vaccination for the Covid virus is moving forward, we cannot be sure that the state of Illinois will have moved into Stage 5 of recovery from the pandemic or that everyone who might choose to attend Festival performances will be protected by mid-summer. Therefore, the Board unanimously felt that canceling the July Festival was the most responsible decision.
The Galena Festival of the Performing Arts has been in existence for more than 20 years. Through the years the Festival has presented classical, jazz, Broadway hits, big bands, folk and blue grass music. Hundreds of people have attended these concerts each year. The Festival Board is committed to providing high quality entertainment to the tri-state area again in the future and will meet in June to consider a possible holiday performance later in 2021.
