One of my local heroes posted this before we all voted yesterday and I think it bears repeating:
“Seatbelt or Weapon? Which one are you going to reach for tomorrow morning? If you are like most people, you don't love either candidate, and you are voting based on one or two issues that are important to you.
For many other voters, there is a strong belief that "their" candidate is the only and best choice. And further, that the other candidate is evil and will ruin the country. If the "wrong" person gets the vote, we may likely see the anger boil over.
With the world, as well and most urgently our children, watching, I urge everyone to reach for the seatbelt. We will have quite a rocky, bumpy ride ahead regardless of who wins the election. Grabbing the weapon, be it words, non-peaceful gatherings, or more literally, is not conducive to growth, peace, or the future for ALL Americans.
We can ride together with our seatbelts on, or we can fight each other. One strengthens, and one weakens. We teach our children that they need to win and lose with grace and dignity. Can we demonstrate the same behavior we ask of them?
Over the next 4 years, let's work together on finding candidates who can lead this country.”
