In March 2012, four friends came together with the concept of opening a brewery in our hometown of Gainesville. We all had great jobs and young kids, so the idea of changing our lives and opening a brewery was truly a leap of faith. As we discussed our reasons for going into the beer business, we realized that each of us offers different perspective and unique experience but that we all want the same thing: make excellent beer, build awareness and appreciation of Florida’s springs, have a great space for people to come and enjoy a pint, be an exceptional place to work, and be a big part of our local community. This is the reason why we’re here – we hope you’ll join us in our vision and passion for great beer and great community.

Thursday, Crooked Counsel plays Suds and Songs, a fundraiser for Three Rivers Legal Services Inc.. Friday, FEST kicks off in the b**r garden with a full afternoon of killer live music and The Fest Flea Market from 1:30 to 7 PM in the b**r garden while registration goes down in the front lot. Saturday, The Theos and The Lisztogram take over for Vote-O-Ween from 2-7 pm because even democracy sounds better with a guitar. 🎸

🪐 TITAN’S HAZE 8.0 Hazy IPA — Strata hops bring candied orange + ripe strawberry, with a pillowy finish and a little dankness from Nelson Sauvin, Titan’s signature hop variety. 7.1% ABV🍊🍓

🌊 SALTWATER INTRUSION Raspberry + Lime Gose — brewed with raspberries, lime, coriander, and just a pinch of sea salt, you’ll get fruity-ness with a tart citrus kick giving raspberry margarita. 🤪 4.5% ABV🍋‍🟩🧂

Both are available in cans and on draft in the taproom! Grab your favorites before they drift away. 🍻

Sunday’s forecast: a 100% chance you leave with more plants and art than you planned. 🌿

On Sunday, October 18, the Florida Native Plant Society Florida Native Plant Society is bringing the Florida Forever Festival to our b**r garden from 1-5 PM, featuring a native plant sale, art vendors, and live music from Boilin’ Oil. Browse natives that were made for Florida, meet some awesome local artists, load up a tote bag (or a wagon, we won’t judge), and take a little more of the wild home with you.

Plus, we’ll have tabling from environmental organizations, guest speakers, and food trucks The Good Life Eats & Treats + Verde Spice.

We’ll be raising funds for FNPS’s advocacy work, with an emphasis on the Florida Forever program: Florida’s premier conservation and recreation lands acquisition program, a blueprint for conserving Florida’s natural and cultural heritage. Guests who donate $10 or more directly to FNPS get a wristband for $1 off all standard pours all day long.

Vendors include Yaupon Brothers American Tea, Jessie Lea ✨ Artist and Marine Biologist, La Chua Art Collective, Katlyn, Ecological Embroidery, Askew Goods, Florida Springs Institute, Alachua Audubon Society, Chiappini Farm Native Nursery, and Rewild Nursery

But first, Saturday, October 17 is a full day. We’re open at 11 AM for UF vs. Texas, with kickoff at 12 PM live on the Giant Screen. 🏈 Then at 6 PM, our annual October Pride Party Dance Party + Drag Show starts, benefiting Pride Community Center and running until 10 PM. 🏳️‍🌈✨ The drag show is 18+ only. That’s the state’s rule, not ours. (Thanks, Florida legislation 🙄)

Something is stirring in the crypt, and we’re pretty sure it’s the best costume contest in town. 👻

Our annual Halloween Ball returns on Friday, October 30th. so get ready to go ALL OUT! Now’s the time to raid the thrift store, dust off the sewing machine, and get the glue gun hot. Give the judges an impossible job! 🎃

Party starts at 7 PM and the contest kicks off at 8 PM on our stage, with prizes in four categories up for grabs: 🌲 Best Outdoor Activity 🏕️ Best Nature/Park Themed 👽 Best Pop Culture/Current Event Themed ⭐ Judges’ Choice

Prizes will be awarded to both individuals and groups, and winners strut away with an infamous FM Trophy, First Magnitude gift cards and swag!

Plus, our Ales from the Crypt b**r series (more about that later 👀) will be pouring all night, so you can loosen up for the dance floor. 🕺

And this fright night does some good. The Ball is a fundraiser for the Florida Park Service Ranger Association, the khaki-collared crew who protect our state parks all year long. A $10 donation at the door gets you a wristband for $1 off full pours all night, and every dollar goes to the rangers. So every shimmy, shuffle, and questionable Monster Mash move is basically a good deed. Even the worst dancers become heroes.

Your FEST weekend starts in the First Magnitude Brewing Co. b**r garden. 🏁

On Friday, October 23, The Source is the official THE FEST wristband pick up location, with pick up running from 12-7 PM. Lines are the worst part of any festival, so we fixed that with a can bar that’s going the whole time. (Translation: the wait is part of the party.)

Partying without a wristband? You’re still getting in. Our free, all ages show runs from 1:30-7 PM, and the FEST Flea Market goes from 12-7 PM in our b**r garden. Neither needs a wristband, so there are no excuses. 🎸 Catch The Raging Nathans, Debt Neglector, Bike Tuff, Hoist the Colors, $500, and a Mystery Band!?! What a lineup.

Just coming for the show? Walk in through the b**r garden lot gate. There’s extra parking behind the building and at the RTS lot; our parking guide shows all the options.

And because it wouldn’t be FEST without the right b**r, POGO Pilsner is back with a fresh can. It’s a crisp, crushable American Premium L***r with a refreshing dry finish and a subtle citrus hop kick that won’t leave a bruise. Get witchy with us on Tuesday, October 13 as we celebrate the return of Black Witch Rye Ale and watch a witchy movie on the Giant Screen at 7 PM. 🧙‍♀️ Our trivia hosts are on vacation (we hear broomsticks fly cheaper than planes), so the movie takes over the Giant Screen this week!

To set the spell, Black Witch is back in the cauldron, our collab with the Florida Museum Florida Museum. This black rye ale with vanilla is brewed with an abundance of rye malt and vanilla bean, and it’s as dark, mysterious, and sweet as the Black Witch moth herself. (Translation: spooky in the glass, sweet on the sip.) ABV: 6.8%

Fun fact about flames: moths can’t resist one. Well, maybe they can resist a black flame candle... 😉 The Black Witch is a night flyer, drawn toward anything glowing in the dark, which makes for a great spooky story and a real problem in real life. Light pollution can harm moths and other nocturnal insects, and a few easy bits of magic at home can help: 🌑 Turn off lights you aren’t using 🌑 Use motion-activated lighting 🌑 Switch to bulbs that produce red-colored light

So we’ll get witchy on Tuesday, then switch off the porch light on the way home. The moths will thank you. 🦋

Sequins are a lot less sweaty in October. 🏳️‍🌈✨

Plenty of Florida cities celebrate Pride in October, and with National Coming Out Day on the 11th, it’s the perfect time for a party. So on Saturday, October 17th, join us for our Pride Party: a dance party + drag show where we’re pulling out all the stops.

We’ll kick things off with DJ SkipTheTrack 🕺🏽 spinning the best anthems to get your feet moving. Then, when the queens are ready (we’re working on drag time, y’all), Emma Gration🌞 hosts a drag show that’s serving everything and then some, somewhere between 7 and 7:30 PM. Expect sequins, sass, fierce looks, big laughs, and show-stopping performances that will have you screaming. And when the final bow is taken, it’s another big gay dance party where you can mingle with the queens. Who knows, we might even break out into an impromptu dance party between sets. 🪩

We’re also raising funds for the Pride Community Center, who are working to open their new permanent space. Donate $10 or more and get a wristband good for $1 off full pours all night long. 🫶

Poe Springs has stopped flowing. 💧

That one stings for anyone who has ever floated a Florida spring. It’s also why our regulars have been writing postcards between sips, and honestly, we’re a little obsessed. The Florida Springs Council Florida Springs Council organized the whole campaign. We just kept the pens handy and the b**r cold. They’ve already picked up our postcards and are delivering them to the Suwannee River Water Management District in support of Alachua County’s request for a mandatory 20% cut to all water use permits. (Translation: when springs drop, pumping should too.)

One of our favorites says, “I don’t want the manatees to get hurt because it is my mom’s favorite animal.” Hard to argue with that. 🤷
