Thank you, Spectacles, for being a great home for Ghostlight!
This month, our featured team is Ghostlight!
Ghostlight’s current players are Fernando Funes, Austin Floyd, Jac Floyd, Erik Wargo, and Dani Berkov-Hopkins (the musician). They perform an improvised movie, complete with camera angles, special effects, subtitles, and a soundtrack! Ghostlight was the first team to regularly perform long form improv at Spectacles.
They didn’t always perform this kind of show. Ghostlight has been around for seven years and has gone through several changes since the beginning.
Ghostlight was formed in 2011 as a short form team. However, they quickly realized that they needed to differentiate themselves; so, they changed from doing short form improv to a horror-themed show. The shows were a mix of long form and short form games, themed around spooky and scary tropes, and ended in re-enactments of the audience's ghost stories and nightmares.
As Spectacles grew and visions for the team changed, Ghostlight let go of their spooky theme and instead embraced a format: the improvised movie. They have been dedicated to that format for two years now.
Ghostlight performs A Night at the Movies at Spectacles, which is a whole movie-going experience: it feels just like being in a movie theatre, with popcorn, ushers, movie trivia, trailers, and the feature film—an improvised movie by Ghostlight, performed by some of the most talented performers in OC.
You can catch A Night at the Movies on Friday, March 23rd and Friday, April 27th at Spectacles. Ghostlight will also be performing at the OC Improv Fest on Thursday, April 5th.
