Trust fall, as in trust that our fall menu will blow you away. Autumn seems to be the season associated with the most distinct flavor profiles…nutty, smokey, dark, rich, spice, pome, etcetera etcetera. We brought some back last year unadulterated, tweaked a few, and came up with some brand new bangers, and are really amped for everyone to try this new menu! Meanwhile we have realised our food menu had started to trend amongst our patrons too! Happy to say that we are keeping that for the off season to the delight of your tummies. Additionally, our outdoor space is now complete with some new heaters if you want to enjoy the crisp autumn air while at The Urchin. Happy fall yall! PC Nathan Fihn

As we get set to reopen after an itty bitty break, I can’t help but feel like our neck of the woods became lonelier. Tenth House is where the idea for The Urchin came to life. This photo was taken from their porch with the thought of converting a dinky, old house into a vibey cocktail bar. Location was a huge factor in determine whether to pull the trigger but our proximity to tenth house really pushed us to go through with it. Not only did Tenth House become a top restaurant in Friday Harbor but it brought passion and soul to our town that won’t be replicated. The camaraderie we built along the way not only helped elevate our capacity to run a successful business but made working and running a business fun. It’s hard to explain how incredible it is for a new business to have a neighbor with such similar values and the ability to get you out of a pickle! Moreover, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone work so hard to bring their craft to life before like Nicole did. This island is a tough place to sustain a food n bev business, and gratitude isn’t guaranteed. We can only hope and beg that something half as good will be reborn across the street from us and that Coco rekindles her passion for food in this town. So long and thanks for all the fish

As Labor day approaches we reflect on all the laborious tasks and efforts it takes to keep quality products, late nights, and consistent hours on the table for this island and community. As a little gift to ourselves we will be closing September 9th-13th to recover from our first entire summer. Nobody wants a grumpy bartender…mostly. Meanwhile we hope to see you this Labor day weekend! PC Nathan Fihn
