UreCoat is typically used to protect flexible urethane foam… but we found another use for it. 👀

For this project, we used it to create the illusion of liquid surrounding a specimen inside a sealed canister, giving it that eerie, preserved-in-formaldehyde look without an actual container full of liquid.

Just another example of how materials can become something completely different when you know how to push them beyond their intended purpose.

Wood ➡️ cast iron. Well… visually, at least. 👀

Bryce shows us a simple scenic painting technique that can make an ordinary piece of wood look like heavy cast iron. The best part? It’s an easy process you can try at home with just a little paint and the right technique.

Sometimes the coolest finishes don’t require fancy tools, just knowing a few tricks of the trade. 🎨

What happens to our props after an activation is over? 👀

The answer is different for every project. Some get stored, some get repurposed, some move on to their next life.

And some become targets for APPLE CANNONS. 🍎💥🚗

These beat-up prop cars were originally created by Monster City Studios for the Xbox Gears of War: E-Day activation. Now they’re headed north to Pumpkin Jack's Ranch PumpkinJacksRanch in Paso Robles, CA, where they’ll be getting a second life on our apple cannon range.

Because apparently surviving E-Day wasn’t enough. 😏

There’s something ridiculously satisfying about watching rust disappear. 👀

The xTool 1200W MetalFab Laser Welder doesn’t just weld. Its laser cleaning capability lets us strip rust and oxidation from metal incredibly fast, without all the grinding, dust, and cleanup that normally comes with surface prep.

We got something new in the shop to put to the test. 👀

Lugarti sent us samples of Terrastone, a ready-to-use, no-mix foam hard coat available in Smooth, Rough, and Rugged textures.

It’s primarily designed for terrarium builds, but they reached out to see what we thought of it from a fabrication perspective. Naturally, we handed it over to James and let him get to work.

Here’s a look at all three textures going on foam and how they turned out.
