Mark Your Calendars for the Eclipses of 2026! 🌌
Whether you are an astrophotographer or just love marveling at the sky, 2026 is delivering some phenomenal celestial events. Here is the essential info for the three big eclipses coming up:
🔴 March 3: Total Lunar Eclipse (Blood Moon)
The Event: The Earth's shadow will completely cover the moon, casting a stunning, coppery-red glow across the lunar surface.
Visibility: Prime viewing will be across North America, the Pacific Ocean, Australia, and East Asia.
🌞 August 12: Total Solar Eclipse
The Event: The moon will perfectly block the sun, revealing the sun's outer atmosphere (the corona). At its peak, totality will last for a maximum of 2 minutes and 18 seconds!
Visibility: The path of totality sweeps across the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain (marking mainland Europe's first total solar eclipse since 1999!). A partial eclipse will be visible across much of Europe, North Africa, and eastern North America.
🌘 August 28: Deep Partial Lunar Eclipse
The Event: Just two weeks after the solar eclipse, we get a very deep partial lunar eclipse. A massive 93% of the moon will fall into the Earth's dark umbral shadow, making it look almost like a total eclipse.
Visibility: This event is incredibly well-placed and easily visible for skywatchers in Europe, Africa, North and South America, and the eastern Pacific.
Clear Skies Everyone! ✨
