Happy New Year to all of our beloved patrons, we had an incredible finish to the year so thank you all for coming in to our cozy little house on Austin Street. I opened La Bergerie just over six years ago, utterly unprepared but with a vision to create a space off the beaten path, for locals and discerning out of towners to enjoy old world hospitality. La Bergerie began as a market, we cured meats and brought in all kinds of weird foodstuffs, but it was really the wine that people were after so we slowly converted into a wine bar, with the same hospitality goals.
Every year we grew in different ways, with our annual Beaujolais Nouveau celebration being one of the few constants year on year. One of the great people I met along the way was Mitchell Sharrock, who moved to town with his family and has become a close friend and great contributor to the local culinary scene. We’ve shared many pontifications on food, beverage and hospitality over the years and it is with a mix of emotions (bittersweet, reflective, excited, proud) that I announce Mitchell will be taking over at 312 E. Austin St. with The Standard.
Our final day of service at La Bergerie will be February 5th, which just so happens to fall on our Monday Industry Night. In the meantime, we’ll continue to open our regular hours of service. There will be some cool bottles emerging from their long slumber in the cellar (you knew Beaujolais would be getting more than one mention in this message!) and I would love to share stories of the highs, the lows, the weirdness, the revelatory moments that have taken place in this magical space.
Our staff members have been incredible over the years, please come out to support them as we wind down this month. I can’t thank them enough and thank you to our community for all the good times,
John
