Monarch Public House

Monarch Public House Beautiful 1894 Supper Pub features an Irish-American menu served with craft brews, wines and muddled cocktails.

Established in 1894 as part of the new Odd Fellows Hall, The Monarch is Wisconsin's oldest continually serving bar. Undergoing renovation and expansion since 1995, the original bar, furniture, back bar and tin ceilings remain the centerpiece of this old world tavern. The owners continue to commit to this project as the lower level now features a truly unique Draught House for the original Fountain

Brew recipes from the 1850's. The third floor is undergoing a similar upgrade and will feature five different tin ceilings and many incorporations of salvaged architectural items and furniture. Plans call for a viewing and dining platform to be built on the roof with a spectacular view of the Mississippi River and the bluffs surrounding the city. On tap since 1997, the original recipes from The Fountain City Brewing Company were saved by the former assistant brewmaster and donated to the owners with the caveat that they remain true to the taste and brew notes.

THURSDAY EVENING FEATURE:
Seasoned, hand-smashed, grilled with butter and enclosed with a toasted brioche bun...that's a Monarch burger! Always best when topped with a slice of cheddar cheese and grilled or raw onions!
Served the same way since 1995 so we're doing something right
SIDES: Fries, Tots, Kettle Chips, GGramma's Potato Salad or Irish Champ Mash. Onion Rings, maybe?

Our Cod filets are BEER BATTERED (lightly!). The filets and the fries are done to crispness in our hot air ovens, so NO added grease. Tartar sauce and coleslaw are handmade.

I knew we'd have to rebuild the Main Street window areas "one of these days" and that day started last week. 130+ year old wood only lasts through Wisconsin Summers and Winters for so long.
Just another project!
From here, we go upstairs to start on window and frame replacement there.

29 years ago, a young couple asked us to host their wedding day dinner. A small affair, ONLY 200 people. We had taken ownership of The Monarch less than two years ago and had a VERY small kitchen capability. But, we did have resources and time to get ready....so, we agreed.
Today, that couple came in to reconnect on their 29th anniversary. To share the happy memories of that day and time, to mututally express our love and appreciation one for the other.
We are enriched by the quality of our friends...and these two make us so.
There is always a way. Believe it, envision it, make it so.
