Originally built in the 1880's the Grey Mule Saloon served Texas Rangers, cowboys passing through the area, and the U.S. Army troops stationed there to provide protection for the settlers and for the San Antonio - El Paso road. It was one of the original adobe structures built in the period of the Officers’ Quarters (1867 and 1868), the Guardhouse (1868) and lastly the Koehler store (1894). Today,

it is a historical landmark located across the street from the Annie Riggs Hotel and Museum built in 1899. Now the Grey Mule Wine Saloon offers wine tasting and wine accessories.
