I’d like to clarify a few things for anyone who may not fully understand what is currently happening with Morgan Lanes.
First, I want to sincerely thank everyone who continues to support the bowling alley and recognizes the effort being made to keep it going.
Morgan Lanes has three owners. Unfortunately, two of the owners are no longer involved in the day-to-day operation of the bowling alley. That leaves one owner continuing to do everything possible to keep the doors open.
I also want people to understand that I have a full-time job and responsibilities outside of the bowling alley. My job requires me to travel out of state, and I also have a family to support. While I am away, I have young employees stepping up and doing their absolute best to keep the bowling alley running.
The reality is that staying open when there is little or no foot traffic simply does not make financial sense. When employees are earning nearly $16 an hour and there are very few customers coming through the doors, the cost of staying open quickly becomes greater than the revenue being brought in.
Regarding today specifically, the three employees who were working put in their time, and I made the decision to close for the remainder of the day. That decision was not theirs, so please do not direct frustration toward them.
I am currently out of town for work, and the other owner who remains involved was dealing with severe weather and damage to his home, including broken windows. We are real people with jobs, families, responsibilities, and unexpected situations just like everyone else. We are doing the best we can to keep Morgan Lanes going while also taking care of our own families and obligations.
Morgan Lanes has been for sale for approximately a year. For those who believe running the bowling alley is easy or that things should be handled differently, I can assure you there is much more involved behind the scenes than most people realize. Between operating expenses, wages, repairs, equipment being damaged, maintaining the facility, and occasionally dealing with disrespectful behavior, keeping a small-town bowling alley operating is not an easy task.
We understand that changes in hours and unexpected closures can be frustrating, but decisions are being made based on what is financially and realistically possible.
We appreciate the people who continue to support Morgan Lanes, treat our employees with respect, and understand that we are genuinely doing everything we can with the circumstances we have.
