AMVETS Post 109

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest wartime v

eterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans. In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security. Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. After WWII many returning troops used their GI Bill benefits to attend college. Veterans on campus began forming veterans clubs, a place where they could go and share similar experiences and offer each other support after the war. On July 23, 1947, President Truman signed Public Law 216 that granted a Congressional Charter to American Veterans of WWII. The charter has been amended over the years to broaden membership eligibility and change the name to AMVETS (American Veterans.)

“The system is in urgent need of reform, not because veterans are gaming the claims process, but rather because government has allowed its complexity to increase unnecessarily. The VA claims process has grown in complexity over the years, becoming a labyrinth designed for administrative convenience, rather than serving veterans."
Last week we submitted a Statement for the Record to the Senator Jerry Moran/Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee Dems calling foU.S. Department of Veterans Affairs benefit claims reform.

“Passing a budget is a constitutionally mandated responsibility of Congress. Our troops take an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, and they do their job. Congress also takes an oath to the Constitution. It’s time they do their job."
Amid the second week of the , National Commander Dan K. Wiley had strong words for Congress during his remarks to the National Executive Committee in Indianapolis. He also asked Legionnaires to urge Congress to pass the Pay Our Military Act
