Finleyville Italian Gumba Society FIGS is a men only club that meets on the second Tuesday of each month for dinner and fellowship. If it is Italian we do it!

The FIGS club is dedicated to preserving Italian culture, customs, and Heritage. We offer classes in making Sopressata, Prosciutto, Limoncello, playing Scopa, Bocce, and wine making.

Dear Fasting Gumbas,

On Tuesday March 12th, we will present our, “Lenten Feasting Dinner”,. This month’s dinner we will be presenting farm fresh lamb from Rice’s Landing, Chef Giovanni, Chef Michele B, Chef Nicola, Chef Pietro, supervised by Chef Tomasso, promise to create another delicious dinner to give thanks for being Italian in this great country where dinner roams the land! Chef Donato is relaxing in the sun in Florida. This month we give homage to our local farmers who supply us with fresh meats and vegetables.

All attendees will be given a takeout box that they can fill with mouth watering pizza to take home to share with family. If you haven’t had FIGS Pizza, you will be in for a big surprise, it is the best that you will have ever eaten. The dough recipe was handed down from Italy and it is the same recipe that we use for our bread.

You are always encouraged to bring a guest or a street person and enjoy our authentic Italian dinner!

Dear Feasting Gumbas,

On Tuesday December 12th, we will present our feast of the 7-fishes, Gumba chefs have been fishing all year for this big event! Chefs Francesco, Giovanni, Michele B, Nicola, & Pietro, supervised by Chef Tomasso, promise to create another delicious feast of the 7-fishes American-Italian style! Chef Donato is enjoying the winter in sunny Florida searching for new recipes from our southern Italian cousins.

Take Out Dinner Orders are continuing to help those members who are a little under the weather but would like a great Italian meal! Treat yourself or your family with a great meal prepared by your favorite Gumba Chefs. Call or text your orders to Pete at 412-721-6531 up to our mealtime on Tuesday. Swing by the back door and we will bring your order so you may be quickly on your way back home. Each take out dinner receives a loaf of baked bread. $20 per meal, please have exact amount of cash or write a check made payable to FIGS and pick up at cucina porta.

November 8, 2022 Gumba Dinner

Dear Devoted Hibernating Gumbas,

On Tuesday, November 8th we will present our salute to hibernating for the winter. Gumba chefs Ernesto, Giovanni, Franco, Michele B, Donato, Nicola, Pietro and supervised by Capo Chef Tomasso, promise to create another mouthwatering dinner. Another great meal for our delicate Italian taste buds. This may be the last chance to add a layer of fat for the harsh winter!

The last two months we have had a lower than normal attendance and this puts us in a bind because we cook for 75 and when less than 20 show up someone is eating leftovers! Please take a minute and reply back to this notice, Yes, I am coming or No, can’t make it. This will give us an idea on how many to cook for.

We have lost a number of our members this past two years with Covid and I pray that this crazy epidemic gets eradicated soon so that we can all get back to socializing without fear! I miss my Gumbas!

February 9th Gumbas Dinner

Dear Devoted and non-infected Winter Gumbas’,

On Tuesday February 9th we will hold our winter festa (if you are a member of the Polar Bear club outside dining is available). This month we have our special GUMBA Chefs’ Donato, Giovanni, Pietro, Michele B, Michele L, Frankie and Tomasso will be cooking up a storm! (Ernesto AGAIN on medical quarantine). This month’s meal will melt in your mouth when you taste our succulent baked ham donated by our friends and close associates at Fig & Ashe restaurant in Pittsburgh. When you visit for one of their mouthwatering meals thank them as a figs member. Thank you Corey e Alex!

Order Take-Out Dinners: During these COVID-19 Times, Treat your family to a great take out meal prepared by our chefs. Call or text your take-out orders to 703-283-6192, anytime up to the time of our meal. Swing by the Cucina Door at 6:00 pm and we will bring your order out back and continue on your way without getting out of your car. Each take-out dinner will receive a fresh baked loaf of bread. $20.00 per meal have exact change or a check made out to FIGS!

AGAIN, I do want to caution you: NO KISSING, GROPING, HUGGING OR BUTT BUMPS WITHOUT A MASK! A mask must be worn at all times unless you are eating or drinking. Maintain social distance as much as possible and spread out unless you are with your lover, then snuggle!

Monthly Poker will continue on Thursday February 11th. If you are interested in joining us this month, we would welcome you and prior poker knowledge is not needed. This will help the club raise money and allow us to have some fun at the same time. 5:00 PM for dinner 6-10 pm poker. We mailed out notices for Limoncello Making February 6th. If you want to be a part of either of these events you need to sign up now and pay soon so supplies can be ordered. We will be using raw sugar in the preparation as I was told that it is better for diabetics. Cost is $75, please contact Tom ASAP.

GUMBA DINNER TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10th

Dear Devoted and non-infected Gumbas’,

On Tuesday November 10th, we will hold our 3rd fall meal under the stars and/or indoors with more of your favorite Italian dishes. This month we have our special GUMBA Chefs’ Donato, Nicola, Pietro, Michele B and Tomasso will be cooking up a storm! (Ernesto & Giovanni are AGAIN on medical quarantine and Michele L. is teaching on line but may make a cameo appearance). This months meal will melt in your mouth when you taste the succulent turkey breast and homemade gravy. Like all Italian families we will serve a full Italian meal along with the traditional Thanksgiving Turkey meal. Come and feast with your brother Gumbas!

September Gumba Dinner

Dear Devoted and not infected Gumbas’,

On Tuesday September 8th, we will have our 1st fall meal under the stars and in doors with more of your favorite Italian dishes. We are serving everyone family buffet style. Please maintain social distancing unless you want to be close to your Italian lover! There will be tents and tables set up outside and spaced far enough apart to maintain social distance. Appetizers and wine glasses will be inside. This month Chefs’ Donato, Nicola, Pietro Michele L, Michele B and Tomasso will delight you with a meal to bring back memories of good old Italian family times. (Ernesto & Giovanni are AGAIN on medical quarantine and Michele is teaching on line but all may make a cameo appearance)

AGAIN, I do want to caution you: NO KISSING, GROUPPING, HUGGING OR BUTT BUMPS WITHOUT A MASK!

The club has taken it on the chin as far as income and we are starting a bimonthly 50/50 ticket drawing where the winner and the club split $5K. The current winner is Kack & Mike and they donated $500.00 back to the club. The next drawing is November 10th, please pick up your ticket bundles of 10 to sell for the club. Dear Lucky Gumbas,

This Friday is our second by monthly poker night at FIGS. A special card shark Frankie 8.5 Fingers Esposito will be making a cameo appearance for the game. He said something about wanting to make his rent payment. We’ll see who is as lucky as Pietro at our last game were he cleaned up and being such a devoted club member he donated his winnings to the club. All had a great time.
