City Conducts Information Gathering Sessions on March 15 & 16 with Cannabis Industry Representatives

The City of Farmington Hills plans to host three information gathering sessions with representatives from the commercial ma*****na industry. Now that Michigan has legalized both medical and recreational cannabis, including commercial production and retail distribution, the City wants to learn more about the industry.

City Council members have monitored the experiences of other municipalities that allowed commercial production and sales of cannabis. They now seek information directly from industry representatives about how commercial cannabis businesses operate, what they look like, how they address community concerns, and how they might impact public safety. Following the industry sessions, two public workshops will solicit feedback from the community. Please watch for announcements on the City website at www.fhgov.com.

Three sessions will take place via Zoom, YouTube, and livestreaming on the following dates:

• Session #1 - Tuesday, March 15 - 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Growers (all classes) and Processors

• Session #2 - Tuesday, March 15 - 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Retailers, Testing Facilities, and Secure Transporters

• Session #3 - Wednesday, March 16 - 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Microbusiness, Designed Consumption Establishments, and Temporary Event Organizers

If you have expertise in these areas and would like to participate in any of the sessions, go to the City website at https://www.fhgov.com/government-business/current-programs-initiatives. Information and applications will be available by noon on Friday, February 11, 2022. City Administration will review the responses and extend an offer to the first 12 people who apply. Applicants will receive a date and time stamped email confirmation. Questions will be distributed to selected participants in advance of the sessions. Members of the public may ask questions of cannabis industry representatives via email or Zoom chat.

The number of participants may be increased as follows: The City of Farmington Hills is a multicultural and diverse community, and is deeply committed to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. As such, minorities, women, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to volunteer to participate in the sessions, and the City will strive to have the volunteers participating in each session reflective of the City’s diversity. In furtherance of this objective, participants may be added to the sessions from the remaining volunteer pool after the first 12 participants are identified.
