Martha Graham Company: Lamentation (1930) and Satyric Festival Song (1932)
One of the most celebrated works in modern dance, Lamentation is a powerful and deeply moving expression of grief, resilience, and the human spirit, while Satyric Festival Song reveals Graham’s more playful, witty side. Performed outdoors against the historic setting of Music Mountain, the two works bring together our two institutions founded only a few years apart, with Graham’s pioneering spirit echoing that of our founder, Jacques Gordon.

ANOTHER packed weekend featuring ANOTHER Grammy Award Winner! Connecticut native Zaccai Curtis’ 2025 Grammy Award winning album “Cubop Lives!” celebrates a style of Latin Jazz that combines Afro-Cuban music with Bebop. See his quartet perform Saturday at 7:00 PM.

Then Sunday at 3:00 PM, be treated by a world class chamber pairing. The Ulysses Quartet has been praised for their “textural versatility,” “grave beauty” and “the kind of chemistry many quartets long for, but rarely achieve” (The Strad), as well as their “avid enthusiasm ... [with] chops to back up their passion” (San Diego Story), “delivered with a blend of exuberance and polished artistry” (The Buffalo News). The quartet “promise to bring as much sophistication, imagination and vitality to Beethoven’s other quartets as they will to music by a panoply of composers from long ago and today” (Gramophone).

A full weekend of exciting NYC based acts! First, on Saturday, 8/8 at 7:00, see THE NEW YORK GILBERT & SULLIVAN PLAYERS play The Mikado, a new 7-person version by Director/Choreographer David Auxier-Loyola. Plus, traditional Gilbert & Sullivan Favorites and Audience Requests to follow.

Then on Sunday, 8/9 at 3:00, see Harlem Quartet perform a favorite selection including pieces from Beethoven, Shaw, and Mendelssohn.

It is sure to be a big (Apple) weekend 🍎 🏙️

Join us Sunday, August 2nd, for an exquisite afternoon of Mozart, Schubert, and the world premier performance of a piece by guest composer, Alfonso Fuentes.

Pre-Concert Talk by Alfonso Fuentes at 2:00 PM on the Making of a World Premiere. Fuentes’ program will include sound and video samples, plus a Q&A to follow. Alfonso Fuentes is an esteemed Puerto Rican composer, concert pianist, and educator. His music has been performed on three continents by prestigious ensembles and soloists.

Music Mountain’s 20-piece “House Band” returns to celebrate the popular music that kept American’s dancing for decades—from the Lindy and Fox Trot to the Mambo and Cha Cha to the Twist! Starting with Benny Goodman’s theme song (Let’s Dance), our high-powered big band brings to life Swing Era classics from Count Basie, Glenn, Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Les Brown and Ray Anthony, among many others. Plus, Swingtime’s engaging singers salute iconic American vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Peggi Lee, and Frank Sinatra, and also celebrate the 100th birthdays of entertainment legends Jerry Lewis, Marilyn Monroe and Tony Bennett.
