Today was a surreal experience. We saw so many of you come out to support us and say farewell. So many in fact that we sold out of almost all of our food. We’ll have to open later on Saturday, October 24 at 4:30 PM. We will have a limited menu and as a result online ordering is closed. The later start gives us an opportunity to recover from a very long day and resupply. Thank you so much to Lucky Dime and devilbaby.hotsauce for throwing a fantastic and memorable party in our space. You all really came out today and blew our minds. This might have been the busiest day Basyside has ever seen (and it’s still not finished until 2am). It was a fitting farewell to live music in our space. Thank you to devilbaby.hotsauce and Lucky Dime for throwing such a fun event. Sold out of almost everything. As a result, we will need to buy some ingredients tomorrow before we can open. Some will take creative sourcing. Open at 4:30pm with a limited menu for takeout and dine in service on Saturday, October 24. Thanks for your patience and support. It means so much. 🫶🏼

It is with the deepest regret that on October 26th, The Bayside Cafe will close its doors. We tried borrowing more money, looking for investors or someone new to take the helm. We’d be thrilled if an animal rights organization would take over and make it a non-profit. So far, none of those options came to fruition. I know this may be a shock to hear, and we are so sorry to the communities who call us home. The vegan community, the live-music community, mutual aid groups, the LGBTQIA+ community, activists, and most of all those who have been with us since the beginning. Six years is a pretty good run for any restaurant. We only wished to be here and grow with you.

We have been through so many ups and downs together. Financially, we just haven’t been able to make this home viable. It was with great hope and determination that the new management team believed we could turn things around, but there have been many setbacks. Equipment failures. Building maintenance and compliance issues. Staff shortages. So many things outside of anyone’s control. But primarily it’s been due to slow sales.

And we get it. The current economy is tough. Folks are going out less, and spending less on meals. We saw a 30% decline in sales month over month from August. October hasn’t been better. Yes, we had a handful of very successful events, but most have been run at a loss. This week we’ll be using up remaining stock, and have ticketed events on Friday (Lucky Dime Devil Baby’s Graveyard Rodeo), Saturday (Freak for All) and Sunday (Rooster Haus Rescue Flocktoberfest). We will be here to celebrate and support the beautifully creative and inspiring experiences you have been able to create in our event hall. Please come down and say hello to us, order some food and grab a drink. Check on IG daily to ensure we are able to open, as some staff have decided to move on ahead of our final day - Sunday evening. We will miss the hell out of all of you.

We will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for the season. Sorry for the inconvenience, though it’s just not a viable plan to be open seven days with the reduced sales we’ve had in the past six weeks. We may open for special events or extend hours on certain days, so keep an eye out for that. Next Sunday we’ll launch our new brunch menu, which we know you’re going to love! Thank you for supporting us. And we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Real talk: this espresso drink isn’t from our café—but we’re looking forward to the day we can make one for you again. ☕💚 Our friends at Narrative Coffee have a vegan PSL on the menu and it’s very very good.

September marked our first month under new ownership, and it brought more challenges than we expected. Between staffing changes, quieter shows, slower sales, and some essential equipment breaking down, it’s been a tough start. But we’re still here, still building, and excited about what Bayside can become.

For now, espresso service is on pause while we work through equipment and permitting issues. Drip coffee and tea are still here to keep you cozy!

And there’s plenty to look forward to:
