A word about METAL ROOFs... PART 2 OF 3 - We had a tornado form on or near our property. PROPERLY installed our metal roof suffered almost no damage. The worst of it is seen here marked by the red arrows. The left damage was from the tree that is really just too close. It should have been cleared long ago. The one on the right is the only place where I missed 2 screws. 2 pieces of metal popped up and caught on each other. All I had to do was lift the top side and it snapped back in place. Also, I added those last 2 screws. This stuff is very tough in wind storms. Also, at our previous home town in Port Aransas, Texas the roofs that show less damage after Hurricane Harvey are the metal roofs. I LOVE METAL!!

A word about METAL ROOFs... PART 1 OF 3 - When building our home here we decided long ago to use metal for our roof and we have been nothing but pleased with our choice! One of the best reasons was illustrated by that huge branch hanging over the cabin just after this picture was taken in the great ice storm of 2009, just over 8 years ago. We were all sitting in the living room with Mark Polk and Karla Polk when that branch broke off. It was a LOUD BOOM that made us thing the cabin would collapse! There was not a single dent or scuff!! It fell from that high and NOTHING! Our cabin is armor plated. We have since changed to the heavy duty metal for all the remaining buildings. Trees have fallen on them and still NOTHING!! METAL GREAT!!! Now that tree is starting to show more distress and health issues. Hoping to have it down in the next few days.

A quick word about chainsaw bars (20-inch vs 16-inch). I started out with a Stihl MS290 with a 16 inch bar that Wayne Reynolds (my father in law) gave me. He had loaned it to someone who used it without oil so it was on its last legs but we were moving up here and needed SOMETHING. It lasted most of two winters for us. (Thank you, Wayne!) We went through a couple cheap ones then Jennifer Bailey got me another Stihl MS290 but this time we got a 20-inch bar. When I was starting out, the 16 inch bar put me at ease using the chainsaw but now that I have used the 20-inch bar I DON'T want to go back. The extra length keeps the chain and bar cooler and the chain sharp FAR LONGER than that 16-inch bar EVER did!! I hit a rock in the middle of a tree this morning and messed up the 20 chain so I had to go back to the 16. I am sad. It is MUCH more work and is going to tire me out much sooner. For anyone needing a saw for a small property (ours is 2 acres) I STRONGLY recommend a 20-inch bar, if not longer. If I had a shot at a 24-inch bar I would probably go for it!

Ten years ago I installed these fans. All candelabra lights. I replaced the top ones with Standard sockets and put in 3 x 100 watt equivalent LED bulbs. It REALLY changed the WHOLE room!!! That is MY Father's day. This is before and after. Needless to say I had a lot of candelabra bulbs that no longer worked.

Here is a better comparison with the camera set on the same settings for both pictures... before and after. Bottom section under fan is the same, just the top lights are upgraded.
