Our beautiful daughter has played ice hockey her whole life. Over the years, she has played in some of the most competitive programs and tournaments in North America. She has played in national level tournaments, attended a high school dedicated to her development, and played D3 hockey in college. She had a great run, but struggled with loneliness and burnout in time.
This year she discovered the Portland Women’s Hockey League and started playing again after a couple of years off. The PWHL is a girls, women, and gender expansive hockey program in Portland, OR ensuring everyone has a safe, inclusive place to learn and play the sport of hockey. She fell in love.
Last night, she won her first league championship with her team the Bo***es. We watched online from So. Oregon. Seeing her hoist ‘the trophy’ was exciting, but not as exciting as listening to her gush all day today about this amazing community, her new-found friends, and the acceptance and support of this hockey community. We haven’t had the opportunity to meet you all, but you have brought our daughter such amazing joy, a renewed love for the sport she grew up with, and a real sense of belonging! We are in awe! Thank you for this incredible community and for making hockey amazing for our daughter again! We appreciate all of you!
