Louis, Missouri by parents who owned retail liquor stores, it was only natural that Wanda Cole took an interest to wine and spirits. It was then that she discovered her love of hospitality and guest service. However it wasn’t until the fall of 2006 that she was bitten with the “wine bug”. As a server at Blue Water Grill, Wanda participated in weekly beverage class. She was fascinated with how comb
ination of geography, history, and science juxtaposed in the creation and development of wine and spirits. In spring of 2007 she was given the opportunity to sit for The Court of Master Sommeliers introductory exam and passed having been in the wine industry for only a few months. Wanda has been fortunate to have worked for world renown chefs including Iron Chef and James Beard recipient Jose Garces, Michelin Star and James Beard recipient Chef Carrie Nahabedian and Chef Joel Dennis. Through these culinary experiences, she has been inspired to create pairings that would not only compliment but also showcase the complexities of different cuisine. While working at Chicago’s upscale restaurants, Wanda has crafted and implemented customized wine training programs. In October of 2009 she created Vinterpretation offering a vast scope of services. She offers beverage education via lecture, facilitation, individual curriculum development and blind tasting to both consumers and hospitality professionals. Wine consulting, event planning and assistance are also offered. Currently working as Dining Room Manager and Sommelier for Kendall College, Wanda brings many years of hospitality experience that facilitate the curriculum for students taking Introduction to Dining Service. She is responsible for the beverage management, student education, and restaurant operations. Wanda holds her Sommelier Certification from The Court of Master Sommeliers and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri in Spanish. She is currently studying for the Advance Sommelier exam. She spends much of her free time traveling and tasting wines from all over the world, as well as educating others on the joy of wine.
