05/26/2014

What a great night tonight at the Loon! Thank you so much to everyone who came out tonight...wow...we will certainly miss you all. Gary and Earl whipped a crew of volunteers into shape to put out a pretty nice spread for everyone. Thanks to Bob Maz and Derek for helping out in the kitchen. You guys are the best! Want to also thank Nancy, Amy and Val for getting the front of the house in order. Good bye for now....hopefully we will see everyone again soon. It was so much fun while it lasted. :)

We were thinking about having a Loon farewell celebration this Sunday evening. Please let us know if you have an interest in attending...if we get enough people interested we will open the doors one last time for our friends. Any of you who have entertained us in the past, please feel free to come by and have a drink or two with us. Feel free to bring your guitars too and play a song or two. We will crank up the kitchen (f we can) and put out what ever we have. Let us know - if we get enough of an interest, we will do it.

05/21/2014

As announced earlier, we are closing our doors after just short of two years in operation.

We set out to make a restaurant that offered casual dining but with a hint of elegance. We set out to make the restaurant affordable, fun and inviting. We wanted a menu that was not ā€˜common’, but rather took various dishes from many cultures and put a different spin on some classics. From our pita and bread with hummus and honey butter offering to our Calamari, to our pasta dishes, we tried to be a little different.

It really comes down to money. We have come to this point after two long years of financial loss. The stress put on our own personal finances and our life in general has just become too much to handle. Our losses exceeded what we originally had budgeted 5 times over. Running a business on an overdrawn checking account slowly takes its toll on a business, and all those involved.

Recently we made attempts to get loans or find an investor/partner. Unfortunately we did not have a lot to offer in return but a Profit Loss statement that only showed Losses. I am sure there are people out there that would have invested on the potential, but unfortunately we didn’t really find them. Thanks JC, but it just would not have been enough.

We made many mistakes from operations, to funding to marketing (or lack of).

There were positives. Gaining recognition as being a place to get a good beer was starting to pay off. We were operating the kitchen very well. Food cost was down; even labor verse sales were good. It just came down to not enough people coming in to cover our overhead. We really feel this summer would have been a success, but we will never know.

We have made many, many new friends, people that will be in my thoughts for many years to come. We thank all of you for the support you have given us.

We would like to thank our staff for sticking with us. You are the best people on the earth. Joe, Phil, Chenny, Luis, Earl, Jackie, Stacia, Don, JV, Jenn, David, Connor, KBK, Tucker, Gab, Ron, Dana and Earl, and those that have already left, love you guys and loved working with all of you. Hope I didn’t miss any of you.

In addition to staff we would like to say thanks to those that helped ā€˜make’ the loon way back in July 2012, Wild Bill, Chris, Sal, Carol, Jay, Lori, Aldo, Angie, JWO JR, Marissa, Val, Jillian, Abbey, Dan K, Jaybone and Elyssa.

A very special thanks to Derek and Nancy, love you guys.

On a personal note, it will be nice to spend time with my children again. When I told my son we were closing, his response, ā€˜well dad there’s pros and cons, like going to Vermont again and you will be home more’. But, I hope this is not the end of road for me in the biz, but could be.

We are closed effective immediately.

Please stay with us on Facebook so that we may get other information out to you. We do have a lot of beer to go through. Also we have food to donate so point us in a worthy direction!

Mug Club Members and Gift Certificates holders please email us at [email protected]

Thank You All!
