In the late 1800s, where the Sportsmen's Chalet is currently located, there was a horse farm. Located on the other side of the Wisconsin River was a logging camp. The loggers would often bring their horses across the river; sometimes the horses would fall through the frozen river and drown. The bend in the river where the loggers often crossed was nicknamed "Dead Horse Bend." In 1917, a bar was bu

ilt where the farm once was; the owners of the bar called in Dead Horse Bend, after the bend in the river. In the early 1900s, tourists rode on steamboats up the river and were dropped off at the bar to be picked up by horse-and-buggy to be taken to their summer homes and the resorts they frequented. In 1981, Gary Don and Laurel Frank bought the bar and renamed it the Sportsmen's Chalet on Dead Horse Bend. Gary Don and Laurel quickly began to learn the history of "Dead Horse Bend" and have shared it with many patrons who have frequented the establishment. The Sportsmen's Chalet caters to all ages and serves a variety of food and drink options. The establishment also has water access to the Wisconsin River - perfect for kayakers, canoers, and fishermen alike. The bar/restaurant is also located along a popular snowmobile trail and serves amazing breakfast during winter months. The owners rent out cabins for snowmobiling, hunting and fishing, or a great weekend getaway. Come Sundays for Chicken Sh*t Bingo, a local favorite! The atmosphere is warm and inviting.

Eleanor and the Sugar Camp school would like to thank Joe and Jenn Minaudo for the six five gallon buckets and the box of drink tabs. We are all very appreciative for everybody that has collected tabs for Eleanor and her school. And they are planning on doing this next year again for the Ronald McDonald house. Our granddaughter Eleanor is collecting pop top tabs for Sugar Camp school. They are having a cute competition between all the classes to see who can collect the most tabs to take down to the Ronald McDonald house. If you have any tabs that you would like to donate please drop them off at the bar. We are closed right now, but you can try calling my cell number or just go behind the bar and drop them off on my house porch. Everything that you do to help Eleanor we would appreciate it. Our granddaughter Eleanor is collecting pop top tabs for Sugar Camp school to take down to the Ronald McDonald house. They are having a cute competition between classes so the more the merrier everything has to be turned in at the latest by April 2. If you have some tabs and you'd like to drop them off at the bar, please do, come behind the bar and drop them off. If we're not around on our porch, Eleanor would appreciate all the help she can get and so would the school thank you

Gary and I would like to thank you for a fantastic Saturday and Saturday night. It was great seeing a lot of snowmobiles and people we had not seen in a while. We'd like to remind you that today is our last chicken bingo for the snowmobile season. We will be closing as of Monday night and reopening Memorial Day weekend? Hope to see you today

Come on over for our last weekend of the snowmobile season. Open Sat, Sunday and Monday night. Hope to see you. If not see you Memorial day weekend. This Sat. Night money drawing at 7, Sunday chicken bingo starts at 3 and monday night show me the money around 7. Going to be a fun weekend.

This is our last weekend for this winter season. Join us tonight for our wonderful fish fry. Stuffed green pepper soup, raspberry/rhubarb pie and blackberry pie. Come visit with the regulars before we close up til Memorial Day weekend. Saturday night drawing tomorrow night, and a little celebration for Marie's birthday. Sunday chicken s**t and Monday night drawing and and show me the money. Come join us for a fun weekend until Memorial Friday night!!! A big thanks goes out to all of our customers for a great season and thanks to all the clubs for wonderful trails. Hopefully next year the Hy 70 trail will be back opened. Love you all!!
