It is with great sadness that I share the news that Kirk Sladic passed away earlier this week after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kirk was a United States Marine and our longest-tenured employee, joining the Doc's family just weeks after we opened our doors. As a bartender, Kirk took tremendous pride in his craft. He had a deep passion for bourbon and genuine joy in sharing that passion — his recommendations were always spot on. If you sat at Kirk's bar even once, he knew your name and your drink, and the next time you walked in, your glass was waiting before you reached your seat.
Kirk and I shared a love of music, with more than a little overlapping taste. He never hesitated to critique my choices and offer his own suggestions — usually better ones.
Kirk was a true friend, and he was loved by many.
I would like to invite anyone whose life was touched by Kirk to join us at Doc's this Thursday evening from 5 o'clock to close. In keeping with Kirk's wishes, this will be an upbeat celebration of his life. His friend John Derado will perform some of Kirk's favorite songs as we celebrate the time we were fortunate enough to share with him. - Brent Brashier
