Today, we proudly celebrate the birthday of the United States Army, established on June 14, 1775, more than a year before our nation declared its independence.

For 251 years, America's Soldiers have answered the call to serve, defend freedom, and protect our nation at home and around the world. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment have helped preserve the liberties we enjoy today.

On this special day, Duryea VFW Post 1227 salutes all who have worn the Army uniform—Active Duty, National Guard, Reserve, and Veterans. Thank you for your service, your dedication, and your unwavering commitment to our country.

Happy Flag Day from Duryea VFW Post 1227!

Today we honor the Stars and Stripes—the enduring symbol of our nation's freedom, strength, and unity.

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress adopted the American flag as the official flag of the United States. For nearly 250 years, it has represented the sacrifices of those who have served and defended our country, as well as the values that make America great.

As we proudly display Old Glory today, let us remember the men and women of our Armed Forces, past and present, who have stood behind that flag and protected the freedoms it represents.

Take a moment to fly your flag, teach a young person about its meaning, and reflect on the blessings of living in the land of the free because of the brave.
