Gary Dolphins Iron Bar!

Gary Dolphin’s Iron Bar is a casual yet upscale adult gathering place that pays homage to one of Iowa’s sportscasting legends. Gary Dolphin has been broadcasting sports for 50 years and is known as ‘The Voice of the Hawkeyes’, performing play-by-play for the University of Iowa football and basketball teams. Gary Dolphin is also known, perhaps on the same broad level as his sportscasting, as being very generous with his time as an emcee and host for countless fundraisers throughout Iowa and the Midwest.

Gary Dolphin’s Iron Bar, located in the Ironworks Building at 333 East 10th Street in Dubuque, Iowa, features a large area with a full bar, furnished with hi-top tables, leather couches and high back chairs in a relaxed, quiet setting. There are no televisions in this main section. Within this space we feature:

  • – The Press Box, a recreation of the actual press box that Gary broadcasts from at Kinnick Stadium at the University of Iowa. – Dolph’s Den, located in a separate room adjacent to the main bar is a private den with couches and a fireplace, adorned with Gary’s favorite memorabilia and artifacts. – Dolph’s Dugout, a semi-private area behind the back-bar that can be reserved for smaller groups, created to have the look and feel of a baseball dugout, one of Gary’s favorite sports. – Dolph’s Corner, an intimate corner of Gary’s place that is a tribute to his family’s Dolphin’s Corner, one of the first convenience stores in Gary’s hometown of Cascade, Iowa, that sold groceries, acted as a weighing station for the grain of local farmers, and of course, had the added bonus of having a short bar where the weary farmers could have a shot and a scoop of beer.
