From The Wagner ➡️ The Wagner
Before it became home to MotorCity Casino Hotel, this building housed the Wagner Baking Company—better known to many Detroiters as the home of Wonder Bread. Founded in 1919, the bakery became a fixture of Detroit's industrial landscape, filling the neighborhood with the unmistakable smell of fresh-baked bread.
After the bakery closed in the 1980s, the property entered a new chapter. A decade later, the site was transformed into MotorCity Casino, which opened its doors in December 1999 and has remained part of Detroit's story ever since.
Today, our center bar, The Wagner pays tribute to that history. Named for the building's roots and inspired by the hardworking spirit that built this city. While much has changed over the years, the foundation of this iconic property and its connection to the city of Detroit remains the same.
