Avelina, a sophisticated stunner in the heart of Lower Downtown (LoDo), turns out captivating New American cooking from an open kitchen that peers over a beautifully designed dining room. The award-winning culinary team creates cuisine from seasonally available ingredients for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. From shared plates like roasted cauliflower flatbread and charred octopus to large plates including short ribs, pork tenderloin and Colorado striped bass, you can expect an elevated Denver culinary experience. The beautifully executed dishes, exceptional wine list, thoughtful cocktails and intoxicating ambiance are not to be missed.
Executive Chef Josh Oakley is proud to be a part of the 2020 Colorado FIVE—a collaboration of local and regional chefs and beverage heavyweights that represent the state’s thriving culinary scene on a local and national level. Since its inception thirteen years a go, the Colorado FIVE has cooked at numerous culinary showcases, including the Aspen Food & Wine Classic and the prestigious James Beard House in New York City, where the Colorado FIVE has been invited to cook every single year of its existence.
FIVE™, a concept that sprung from a deep admiration for the city of Denver and its ever-evolving culinary traditions, is founder Leigh Sullivan’s labor of love. On behalf of each deserving local chef and restaurateur, FIVE™ aims to assert our state’s rightful place in the national spotlight. Since 2008, FIVE™ has been a dedicated collaboration of influential chefs that strive to put our state’s exceptional regional cuisine on the national culinary map. The FIVE™ chefs exemplify the passion, creativity and purpose that define Colorado’s culinary landscape.
This year’s band of extraordinary talented chefs includes alumnus Jim Pittenger, chef-owner of Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs; Rebecca Weitzman, former winner of Chopped and executive chef of Ivy on 7th and Logan Street; Jennifer Akina, executive pastry chef of Melted and cake artist at Azucar Bakery; Arden Lewis, executive chef of Comal Heritage Food Incubator; and Josh Oakley, executive chef of Avelina. The beverage crew lineup struts the expertise of Jayme Henderson and Steve Steese, co-founders of The Storm Cellar, a winery in Hotchkiss, Colorado, as well as Jen Mattioni, co-owner and bar manager of the Denver-based Q House.
