Congratulations, Prof. Davis and the students of the Milwaukee Jazz Institute.

Huge congratulations to the Milwaukee Jazz Institute “A” Train Ensemble for being selected as a winner in the High School Honors Ensemble Outstanding Performance category in the 49th Annual DownBeat Student Music Awards — one of the most prestigious honors in jazz education.

Directed by Mark Davis, the ensemble features Emmet Fettig (alto sax), Samuel Caiola (piano), Thomas Renz (bass), and Adrian McCants (drums).

We are incredibly proud of these outstanding young musicians and grateful to everyone who supports their hard work, creativity, and dedication.

MASTERCLASS FEST AMSTERDAM: Today, I’ll be sharing my knowledge at Masterclass Festival Amsterdam in The Hague.

The Masterclass Festival is exactly what it sounds like: a gathering of artists from around the world, coming together to share their skills with the festival attendees. As a jazz educator (both at NIU School of Music and with the Ravinia Jazz Mentors program), I always enjoy having the opportunity to connect with the next generation of up and coming jazz musicians.

The next day, I’ll be doing some lessons with the guitar students at the Royal Conservatory.
