Tom's Review:

Tastes like: Strong (8.5% ABV) and hoppy in a 12 oz portion. Technically a “pale ale,” but at this ABV and this much Citra hop flavor, call it what you want.

How to drink it (and not end up like the walking dead): PLEASE pace yourself. 8.5% will catch up with anybody who pounds the can quickly. Pour in your favorite IPA glass (Mine is a tulip) to let it air out.

Why drink beer during a zombie apocalypse? Brad Pitt did. In the “World War Z” movie, a host family sheltered Pitt’s family in their apartment and gave them food (and beer). If it appears the world will end soon, I know I’m having a beer.

The Brewery – Mike, Nick, and Simon (Floyd, obviously) started brewing in a Hammond Indiana garage in 1996 with secondhand equipment. They have since won World Beer Cups and RateBeer awards for many different beers.

You might also enjoy – “Zombie Dust” – their lighter, slightly less hoppy, but easier drinking (6.5% ABV) which also displays very cool can art.

The Can Art – Why is it so good? Real Comic Artists get the commission. Including this one from Simon Bisley.

Toms Review:

Never too early for the “Favorite Sweater”

The Beer and the Flavor: 6.5% ABV from Dogfish Head. “Traditional” or “American” style in the author’s opinion. Not piney and clear like the West Coast style, and not hazy or citrusy like a New England style. Right down the middle.

Bad Analogy: If this was a baseball pitch, it would be batting practice. Straight over the middle at a consistent pace. At 6.5%, you can keep swinging hard and not get hurt.

How and When to Drink It: I think it belongs in a glass. Pour hard to get the full head to come out. We know you can’t wait till fall (I didn’t), so have it with an end-of-summer hamburger from the grill.

The Brewery: Sam Calagione founded Dogfish in the mid-1990s and gets nicknamed “the cool uncle” of craft beer. He started a lot of modern eccentric American brewing back in the day, wrote books about his business and beer adventures, and eventually merged with Boston Brewing Company a few years ago.

Fun Local Road Trip(s): Visit their brewery and tasting room in Milton, Delaware (less than 100 miles). Visit their brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware (just over 100 miles). They often sell exclusive beers—some VERY high-ABV treats—available only at the brewery.
