TRAFFIC SIGNAL BLACKOUT—If all traffic signal lights are not working, treat the intersection as a four-way stop and observe the right-of-way rules.

FLASHING RED—A flashing red signal light means exactly the same as a stop sign: STOP! After stopping, proceed when safe and observe the right-of-way rules. Be careful as many times the opposite lanes of travel will have a flashing yellow light and are not required to stop.

FLASHING YELLOW—A flashing yellow signal light warns you to be careful. Slow down and be especially alert.

𝐖𝐞𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐧

A curfew has been announced for Volusia County beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9., and lasting until 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, to discourage unnecessary traffic during the height of the storm. The curfew does not apply to:

• Regular members of law enforcement bodies

• Regular employees of businesses, industries, or government entities while traveling for their jobs

• All emergency workers

Any person who knowingly violates this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of up to $500 and/or 60 days jail.

Again, this curfew is intended to prevent unnecessary traffic on our roads during dangerous storm conditions, which are already anticipated to significantly impact emergency resources.

While current Hurricane Helene projections do not foresee the need to close any high-rise coastal bridges in Volusia County, there have been inquiries regarding the protocols for closing them during severe weather conditions.

Volusia County enacts high-rise coastal bridge closures when determined necessary by Volusia County’s emergency management director in coordination with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement under the following conditions:

- Upon the arrival of winds sustained at 39 mph
- When visible damage to the bridge or flooding of the approaches has occurred
- To conduct damage assessments

As Hurricane Helene approaches, Volusia County officials will continue closely monitoring weather forecasts and assessing potential impacts on bridge safety. Volusia County remains prepared to implement safety closures if weather conditions warrant.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring ongoing weather updates, as changes in the storm’s trajectory or intensity may necessitate bridge closures to ensure public safety. The Volusia County Citizens Information Center (CIC) will remain open until 6 p.m. today. Residents can call the CIC with storm-related inquiries at 866-345-0345.
