Our history with "The Music Man" began in June of 1993 when director, Rick Martin, first brought River City to Dalton! Things look a little different 33 years later, but we were honored to have Mr. Martin in the audience for our performance of "The Music Man Jr." this past weekend!
Pictured here is Mr. Martin with current directors Mary McLawhorn and Heidi Long, and with the original Harold Hill (Wes Phinney) and Marian Paroo (Jennifer Phinney) with the original playbill and in front of the original ACT poster! Wes and Jennifer were just newlyweds at the time, but will celebrate 35 years of marriage later this year!
Rick Martin is a founding member of ACT, and directed several of the theater's productions including "Big River," "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," "Radio Gals," and "Smoke on the Mountain." In 2020, ACT honored Mr. Martin and his late wife, Sandy, for their endless dedication to the organization by naming our primary theater "The Martin Theater"
Mr. Martin is still in the audience for every show at ACT!
You can catch our 2026 production of "The Music Man Jr." on The Mashburn Stage in The Martin Theater for it's final weekend this Friday, 06/12 at 7:00, Saturday, 06/13 at 2:00 and 7:00, and this Sunday, 06/14 at 2:00!
