This Labor Day, we’re celebrating the people behind The Original.

Great steaks, legendary Prime Rib, chef driven food, handcrafted drinks, and warm hospitality don’t happen without great people. From our kitchens and bars to the team members welcoming guests through the door, they’re the heart of the Steak and Ale experience.

That was true when Norman Brinker founded Steak and Ale in 1966, and it remains true as we build the future of the brand today.

As The Original grows from Burnsville, Minnesota to our upcoming location in Anderson, South Carolina and beyond, we’re proud to have hardworking, passionate people carrying that tradition forward.

To our team members past and present, thank you for making Steak and Ale great.

Happy Labor Day from The Original.

Bennigan’s has always been the kind of place where you come for the food and end up staying for the people.

It’s your neighborhood watering hole. The place to grab a handcrafted drink after work, split an appetizer with friends, catch up over a World Famous Monte Cristo™, or turn a quick dinner into a night out.

Chef driven food, generous portions, innovative drinks, and warm Irish hospitality have been bringing people together at Bennigan’s for nearly 50 years.

Now we want to bring that experience back to even more neighborhoods.

If you’ve ever said, “I wish we still had a Bennigan’s here,” maybe it’s time to help make it happen.

Steak and Ale was built on a simple idea: give people a great steakhouse experience without making them choose between quality, quantity, and value.

That idea changed casual dining.

Since Norman Brinker founded Steak and Ale in 1966, The Original has been known for the kind of food that makes dinner out feel like an occasion. Quality steaks. Slow roasted Prime Rib. Fresh baked honey wheat bread. A bountiful salad bar. Scratch made favorites. Generous portions. And a team that believes genuine hospitality matters just as much as what’s on the plate.

Sixty years later, those standards haven’t changed.

What has changed is where the story is headed.

Steak and Ale is back in Burnsville, Minnesota, introducing a new generation to The Original while giving longtime guests the experience they’ve missed. Next, we’re heading South to Anderson, South Carolina.

There’s something special about going back to where it all began.

In 1966, Norman Brinker introduced Steak and Ale and helped change the way America went out to dinner. Great steaks, warm hospitality, generous portions, and an experience that made an ordinary night feel like an occasion.

That’s the nostalgia we love. Or, as we call it, Newstalgia.

Today, we’re taking everything people loved about The Original and building a bright future around it. Our talented team members in Burnsville, Minnesota are serving up chef driven food, legendary Prime Rib, quality steaks, innovative drinks, and the friendly hospitality that made Steak and Ale famous in the first place.

And Burnsville is only the beginning.

Anderson, South Carolina is next, bringing The Original back to the South and introducing Steak and Ale to a whole new generation.

Sixty years later, the food is still worth going out for, our people are still the heart of the experience, and the Steak and Ale story is growing again.

This is what we mean when we say restaurants become part of people’s lives.

We recently heard from a couple celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary who shared an incredible story from our sister brand, Bennigan’s.

On August 19, 1989, they were married at a Bennigan’s in Arlington, Texas, right at table 73.

Thirty seven years, nine children, and eight grandchildren later, they happened to discover a Bennigan’s while traveling for business. Naturally, they made an anniversary reservation and asked for table 73.

We love stories like this because Steak and Ale guests tell us similar ones all the time.

First dates that became marriages. Birthday dinners. Anniversaries. Graduations. Family traditions that lasted for decades.

Bennigan’s and Steak and Ale have always been about more than great food. They’re places where people come together, and sometimes those ordinary nights around a table become the stories families tell for the rest of their lives.

To this wonderful couple, happy 37th anniversary from your extended Steak and Ale family.

And to everyone who has made Steak and Ale part of your own story over the years, thank you. We love hearing your memories, and we’re honored to be making new ones with you today.

Steak and Ale was The Original for a reason.

Since 1966, we’ve believed a great steakhouse should take its food seriously. Quality steaks prepared with care. Slow roasted Prime Rib. Fresh baked honey wheat bread. Our legendary salad bar. Chef driven recipes, generous portions, and real value.

We don’t believe in cutting quality to increase quantity, and we don’t believe guests should have to settle for less food to get something great. At Steak and Ale, you get both.

That philosophy helped Norman Brinker change American casual dining 60 years ago. Everyone else came after. Today, we’re bringing The Original back for a new generation.

Burnsville, Minnesota proved people were ready for the return. Now Steak and Ale is heading South with a new location coming to Anderson, South Carolina.

And Anderson won’t be the last.

We’re looking for franchise partners who understand the opportunity behind an iconic American brand with generations of loyal fans already asking us one question:

“When is Steak and Ale coming back to my city?”

Maybe you can help us answer it.

Steak and Ale takes food seriously. We always have.

When Norman Brinker founded Steak and Ale in 1966, he helped create a new way for America to dine. We were The Original. The brands that followed came after us.

And 60 years later, we still believe the food has to live up to that legacy.

That means quality steaks prepared with care. Slow roasted Prime Rib. Fresh baked honey wheat bread. Our legendary salad bar. Scratch made favorites like Classic Stuffed Mushrooms. Generous portions that make a night out feel worth it.

We never believe in sacrificing quality for quantity, or quantity for quality. Our guests deserve both, along with genuine hospitality and a value that keeps them coming back.

That philosophy helped make Steak and Ale an American original, and today it’s helping fuel our comeback.

The Original is back in Burnsville, Minnesota. Anderson, South Carolina is next. And there are a lot more communities where we’d like to see that familiar Steak and Ale sign again.

Some stories have a way of coming full circle.

More than 30 years ago, John and Dixie Benca met and fell in love while working together at Steak and Ale near the University of Georgia. They built lifelong relationships there and learned firsthand what genuine Steak and Ale hospitality looked like.

Now they’re bringing The Original home to Anderson, South Carolina as Steak and Ale’s first Southern franchisees.

As John says, “Steak and Ale represents a trusted experience people can depend on, and we’re honored to bring that Legendary legacy home.”

This is exactly what our comeback is about. Honoring 60 years of history while giving a new generation the chance to create their own Steak and Ale memories.

Burnsville brought us back. Anderson takes us South. Where we go next could be up to you.

We didn’t invent the burger. We just know we perfected it.

At Bennigan’s, a burger should be big, bold, and worth every bite. Quality ingredients, chef driven recipes, generous portions, and the kind of value that leaves you full and happy.

Because we’ve never believed you should have to choose between quality and quantity. At Bennigan’s, you get both.

So when you’re craving a serious burger, think Bennigan’s.

And as we celebrate nearly 50 years, we’re ready to bring that experience to even more communities. Bennigan’s is growing, and we’re looking for franchise partners who want to be part of what comes next.

There’s something special about looking back at the people who helped make Steak and Ale what it is.

For generations, hardworking team members have been the heart of The Original. They’re the people behind the chef driven food, innovative drinks, and warm, friendly hospitality that turned a meal at Steak and Ale into something guests looked forward to.

The uniforms and hairstyles may have changed, but that spirit hasn’t.

Today, a new generation of Steak and Ale team members is carrying that tradition forward as our comeback continues. Burnsville, Minnesota brought The Original back, Anderson, South Carolina is next, and we’re ready to bring Steak and Ale to even more communities.

Great brands are built by great people. After 60 years, we’re proud of the people who got us here and excited about the ones who will help take us where we’re going next.
