Hi everyone! As the founder and owner of Ohio Brewing Company I feel it is my duty to tell you why we have sold our building and everything in it and are now closed.
After we moved our business to downtown Cuyahoga Falls we became part and parcel of the community we came to love! I decided to take one more chance, and move our business from Akron to the new development of downtown Cuyahoga Falls, which I believe was a great idea and has been a fantastic addition to Summit County! The move to Cuyahoga Falls was the best business decision I’ve ever made
We were very supported by the wonderful people of the Cuyahoga Falls area.
After riding out COVID and the attendant economic downturn we still gave our customers (which I aways referred to as OBC Family) great beer, excellent food and fun times!
Now unfortunately, we had to deal with rising food costs, beer ingredients costs and other related business costs that made it more difficult to be profitable, in addition to changing beer and alcoholic beverage tastes We tried to answer the latter with a lot of alternatives, such as brewing seltzers, and having other other options, like mixed drinks and so forth. This allowed us to keep our pretty strong sales to the very end and because of our attractive location in the new downtown revitalization area we’ve been fielding numerous offers to purchase our building and business. We never advertised it for sale, but we always were cognizant to look at every option. In addition, I have run the company with my brother Michael’s assistance and support My brother has been part of Ohio Brewing Company since our founding many many years ago and since he is 10 years older than me he indicated that he wanted to retire from being involved in our business, so without my brother I didn’t want to continue without him as it is a family operation and always has been.
Finally, I have also been getting kind of worn out from trying to run everything and dealing with all the numerous managerial issues any brewpub has to deal with such as human resources, bills, and maintenance, just to name a few. With that background at play, we received an offer from a group that owns numerous restaurant properties throughout the eastern United States and felt it was a good way to exit our operation with our heads held high, knowing that the building will continue to be utilized after so much money was put into it by our company to bring this wonderful hundred-year-old plus building back to life. The new owners have indicated strong interest probably in leasing it to another brewpub to continue brewing beer. Hopefully, our Ohio Brewing beer will be continue to be featured at the location. I did not sell the rights to Ohio Brewing Company or the recipes, so if I ever decide to license it I can. I’m just done overseeing and managing an operation. So to end, I wish everyone a wonderful and happy new year and remember it’s all about the beer! Cheers!
