What to Wear for Homecoming and Prom
Homecoming and prom are big events and you want to look sharp. Not only is there the big night itself, but any photos taken will probably be around for years to come, so it's smart to dress in a style that'll stand the test of time.

Formal homecoming or prom
The term "formal" typically implies that a tuxedo is in order. Check with friends on the student committee working to organize the dance for specific dress code information.

If wearing a tuxedo, check out a Formal Affair by Michael Laurence. The formalwear consultant will help you select one that will work well for both the occasion and also your build. For a contemporary wrinkle on formal attire, consider a notch collar tux with a vest and long tie instead of a cummerbund and bow tie.

Semi-formal event
Many homecomings are semi-formal, so if a tux is not in order, stick with a dark suit (probably black), a fashion-colored shirt, and a modern tie. Again, Formal Affair b Michael Laurence can help put together a perfect look.

Matching your homecoming/prom date
Matching a date can be a nice touch, although it is really not mandatory (of course, your date might feel otherwise, so check with her). When matching, only incorporate the color of her dress into your accessories, especially tie and/or dress shirt. Don't feel compelled to match the color of the dress with your clothing (meaning suit, tuxedo, sport coat, etc.).

The only exception to this concerns a black dress. If your date wears a black dress, it is perfectly reasonable, though not required, that your suit would be black as well.

The Essential Elements
The first rule of tuxedos is that a black suit is not a tuxedo, no matter how it is accessorized.

Black tie means you need to wear a tuxedo. Single breasted or double breasted, peak, notch, or shawl collar will do. It's your choice.
