James Browning a railroad machinist with the B & O railroad went into the Beer Business by accident. He became a close personal friend of Fredrick Miller while attending every Notre Dame Football game during the 40's. When Miller expanded eastward, Browning became a distributor by receiving an unordered boxcar of Miller beer. Western Maryland Distributing Company was incorporated under the laws of the state of Maryland in 1952. Robert Gornall purchased the company in Feb 1979. Total industry sales were 1052158, Miller Brewing Co. sales 264546 ( 25.1% Market Share ). 2007 Murray Gornall was appointed president. Beer Wholesalers Asan. 1981 (helped pass Maryland Franchise law)
Today over 500000 cases sold annually and 60% Market Share. Has donated more than 600k local charities since 1979. Donated more than $25,000 towards construction of new Western Maryland Health System. Only local Beer- Wine Distributor in Allegany County.
