Producer Profile: Tessier Winery
Tessier Winery was founded in 2009 by Kristie Tacey, a former research scientist whose career took her from Michigan to the Bay Area and, eventually, the Human Genome Project. With a background in microbiology and a certificate in winemaking from UC Davis, Tacey found winemaking to be the perfect meeting point between science and creativity.
Tessier’s wines are made from organically farmed fruit sourced from small family vineyards throughout Northern California, including the Sierra Foothills, Santa Cruz Mountains, San Benito, Anderson Valley, and Arroyo Seco. Tacey’s approach is intentionally hands-off: grapes are hand-picked and sorted, fermentations rely on native yeasts, and the cellar work is kept to a minimum.
Tacey pairs each wine with a song, and the labels are designed by Oakland artist Tara Lynch. That combination of scientific curiosity, natural winemaking, music, and art gives Tessier a personality that feels very much its own within California’s natural-wine scene.
We currently have three Tessier wines: Soul Love is a light, juicy, chillable red with bright fruit and a refreshing edge, while Day Dreaming and the Cinsault show off Tacey’s knack for making California reds that are fresh, lively, and easy to drink without sacrificing character.
