This is one of those Goat Island stories we never get tired of telling.

After the 2011 tornado, a handwritten beer recipe signed “W. Richter” was discovered in a downtown Cullman attic. Part of it was written in English, part in old German—and all of it was worth saving.

The translation traveled to Germany. Gery turned it into a beer. Then members of the Richter family gathered in his basement and raised the first glasses together.

Swipe through a little piece of Cullman history—from Richter’s Hotel and Saloon to the handwritten recipe that inspired Richter’s Pilsner.
