I’m still here! Been silent for a bit but for good reason. Beginning of the month my Dad had open heart surgery. Everything procedurally went well. The double bypass, the ablation, and a procedure where they clamp an atrium to prevent blood clots from forming all went perfectly. His surgical team had clear minds and steady hands. However there were complications and he had an adverse reaction to a medication which led to pretty bad anaphylaxis. In all of my years of being in the medical profession it was easily the worst I have ever seen. A procedure that was supposed to be 4-6 hours ended up being almost 9.
Your Dad at no matter what age you are is always the persona of a super hero. Unmatched in any feats of strength, untouchable, and unbreakable. Truth is I never doubted my Dads strength during this process. He comes from a bloodline of stubbornness, but medically I wavered. For the first time I thought my super hero had encountered his kryptonite.
Almost a month later my Dad is now finally home and recovering very well! Thanks to everyone who has reached out along the way. He still has a road of healing but is progressing forward every day.
