SAVE THE DATE: OCTOBER 10TH WE ARE CELEBRATING ST JAMES' TURNING 30!! Details coming soon...
The year was 1996, the setting was a desolate strip of North 4th Street that had seen better days. The scene seemed unlikely to be the home of what would soon become one of the most beloved neighborhood bars in the city. Alas, late summer marked the birth of the St. James Tavern. What else was happening that year that impacted our lives for years (or months) to come? Here are a few of the high lights& low lights of 1996; the good, the bad, and the ugly. People were doing the Macarena, shouting "SHOW ME THE MONEY!", and playing Nintendo 64. Oprah started her book club and Tiger Woods made his professional debut on the PGA tour. The Ramones played their last show in LA, and Tupac Shakur was shot& killed in Vegas. The Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski, was arrested and Jon Benet Ramsey was murdered in her parents' basement. 24 hour news outlet Fox News was created and Bill Clinton was reelected by defeating Bob Dole. Whew. That was a LONG time ago. So glad we made it. Come celebrate with us on Saturday October 10th!
