Shocked, excited, beyond belief. We’ve been in the top 10 of craft rum distilleries before, and it never gets old.

But to be called a top 5 spirits tasting room, particularly among all of the options in that amazing list, is just wild. All of the other names were big, nationally-known brands. Destination locations. We’re still processing it and what it means.

One thing we do know- THANK YOU! All of you voted to put us here. We are humbled. 🙏

Opinion: age statements are overrated.

Not age. Age matters. But somewhere along the way, we started treating the number on the bottle like a quality score. Older = better.

We noticed it firsthand during our Bottle Your Own Bourbon tastings. When we told people the age and proof beforehand, they usually chose the older bourbon.

So we stopped telling them.

Now, tasting blind, about 70% choose the younger one.

Sometimes more time in a barrel makes incredible wh***ey. Sometimes it just makes older wh***ey.

Be honest: how much does the age statement influence you before you ever taste what’s inside?

Potentially controversial wh***ey opinion: you should stop saving your best bottles.

Wh***ey is made to be opened. That bottle you’ve been hanging onto for the “right occasion”? Tuesday can be the right occasion. Friends stopping over can be the right occasion. Making an Old Fashioned with an expensive bourbon can absolutely be the right occasion.

We’d rather see a great bottle empty because it became part of a bunch of good nights than sitting unopened on a shelf for ten years.

Agree or disagree? Is there EVER a bottle that’s too special to open?
