El Paso County recycles toilets! Don't worry, we are not implying you recycle your old toilets into yard planters, we are however, recommending you take those old toilets and help Colorado Springs recycle them in to road aggregate. See below for more information!
After a successful 2011 commercial pilot, Colorado Springs Utilities is partnering with El Paso County, the City of Colorado Springs, and Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority to capture and recycle this valuable “commode-ity” for reuse as a road base aggregate. As of April 2nd, residential customers can recycle disassembled old porcelain sinks and toilets at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility on Akers drive, and commercial customers can recycle at Olson Plumbing downtown. Using equipment from its Spring Creek Recycling Facility, this service is offered free of charge, with the option of a portable dumpster placed on site for big replacement jobs; a huge hit! This project facilitates rebate participation, helps meet conservation goals, and ultimately protects valuable natural resources, contributing to the sustainability of our region.
