Park County Youth Hockey Association in Cody would like to invite any and all players to our
1st Annual Skills Competition and Tournament
The Skills Competition and Tournament will be hosted the weekend of September 15th. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Association is sponsoring a skills competition for us, very similar to the Punt/Pass/Kick, Basketball skills, and Baseball Run/Throw/Catch that have occurred in Cody for quite some time. Park County Youth Hockey Association would like to host a hockey version of these types of competitions. We will be charging $25 per participant and tee-shirts will be provided for each participant as well. We will ultimately have trophies for boys and girls in specific age divisions as well, but more importantly we will have an opportunity to teach the kids some specific hockey skills, then the following day have them put those skills in use during a round robin styled tournament.
The Skills Competition will consist of a fastest skater, accurate shooter, and stick handling competition. The session will run from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday September 15th. Coaches will provide instruction on each skill in groups so each kid will get an opportunity to learn these skills. During the last hour or so of this Saturday session the kids will compete to see who is the top in 3 separate age divisions for both girls and boys. Trophies will be awarded by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Association to these individuals.
Tournament play will be on Sunday September 16th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with each player playing at least 2 games and maybe more depending on the total number of participants. To separate teams evenly, following the skills coaches will draft teams to hold a tournament the following day. We will have 2 to 4 teams depending on the number of registrants that will be drafted evenly by coaches. The teams will consist of all age levels, however the game will be designed such that a particular age group/skill level is on the ice against the same age group/skill level of the opposing teams, so your kids won't be going head on against older or younger groups. This will be an opportunity for kids to take their individual skills and incorporate them into the team format of hockey.
If you are able to only participate in one or the other event, that is fine as well. Just let us know and we'll plan accordingly. If possible, please RSVP by email back ([email protected]) to me so that we have an idea of the participation we can expect and we can plan accordingly.
Thanks so much, I really look forward to seeing you all here.
