We appreciate the many community members who have reached out with questions and concerns regarding the historic Bank Building in Downtown Cocoa Village, home to The Vintage Vault restaurant and lounge.
Built in the 1920s, this landmark is an important part of Cocoa's history and the character of our downtown. We understand that recent social media posts have raised questions about an incident involving the building, and we have been requested to clarify what has been reported.
The incident involved a localized section of decorative plaster ceiling on the second floor, measuring approximately 4 feet by 8 feet. This was not a roof collapse. The area involved was part of an interior decorative ceiling, and the reported incident should not be confused with a collapse of the building's roof. (A photograph of the affected area is included for reference.)
The Bank Building is a historic, solid poured-concrete structure that has stood as part of our community for more than 100 years. As with any historic property, maintenance, and appropriate repairs are important to preserving the building for future generations.
The affected area and any related concerns will be evaluated, and necessary work will be addressed with qualified, licensed contractors and engineering professionals as appropriate. The owners of the property are committed to handling the matter responsibly and preserving the integrity of this historic property.
Also in response to comments regarding City of Cocoa representatives, we have dedicated professionals who serve our community through the City of Cocoa's fire safety, police, and building permitting departments. Their work is an important part of maintaining a safe and thriving downtown and their reputation is among the best in the state.
The Bank Building has long held a special place in Cocoa Village, and we remain committed to its continued care and preservation. Our downtown is strongest when we work together, support our local businesses, and recognize the local owners, employees, and families who invest their time and resources in our community.
Thank you to everyone who cares about Cocoa Village, its history, and its future. The owners look forward to continuing to preserve this special landmark for the community to enjoy for years to come.
