Incredible work by our local Lake County Fire Protection District! 🚒

Lake County Fire Protection District (LCFPD) has released its 2025 Annual Report. The report reflects the work being done every day by LCFPD personnel to serve our community and provides an overview of the district’s operations, training, and administrative efforts over the past year. 🚒🚑

Serving approximately 165 square miles—including the City of Clearlake and Lower Lake—LCFPD operates out of two staffed stations: Station 70 in Clearlake and Station 65 in Lower Lake.

In 2025, LCFPD responded to more than 6,000 calls for service. Fire responses included 43 vegetation fires, 44 structure fires, 355 other fire incidents, and 123 mutual and automatic aid fire responses.

The report also highlights major incidents such as the Lake Fire, along with continued operational growth—including the hiring of seasonal firefighters and advancing personnel through paramedic programs.

Clear Lake Hitch Public Observation Survey

The Clear Lake Hitch (CLH) is an endemic minnow (found only in Lake County). CLH has long served as an important cultural resource, providing subsistence to indigenous Pomo Tribes for thousands of years.

The Hitch have been listed as threatened since 2014 and as of January 2025, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has proposed to list the CLH as threatened under the Federal Endangered Species Act.

Volunteers are needed!

Monitoring annual spawning migrations can help to better understand CLH population trends, to better manage and protect such an important species.
