Happy Mother's Day to all Mothers of every kind from Cunneen's Bar!!!

A great way to celebrate tonight might be by coming to The Music Box Theater at 7pm to see the Chicago premiere of HEKLA!! It's been getting FANTASTIC reviews - here's one from Richard Roeper:

In case you're not familiar with that pinnacle Agnes Varda work from the French New Wave film movement of the Early 1960s which revolutionized cinema and changed the film industry forever for the better- comparing HEKLA to CLEO FROM 5 TO 7 is a beyond AMAZING compliment for both Michael Smith and Elizabeth Stam!!! Well done, Guys!!

Hi Everyone! The Chicago premiere of HEKLA will be Sunday, May 10th (Mothers Day evening!) at 7pm at The Music Box! Tickets are on sale now! Were you there for the filming while we were open back in August? Then you're probably in the movie! Come to The Music Box on 5/10 after you take your mom out to brunch, call her, curse her, remember her, whatever you do or don't do (we're not here to judge!) and find out!

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Michael, Elizabeth, and additional cast members Wendy Robie (Twin Peaks), Mary Tilden, Brookelyn Hebert, Sadieh Rifai, Grant Carriker, and Sadie Rogers!

Afterwards come back to Rogers Park and grab a drink or few!

The film has been picking up awards at festivals left and right and has been getting excellent reviews and Cunneen's is thrilled for Michael Smith, Elizabeth Stam, et all! And you can see us in the trailer (see below)! We can't wait to see how the full 20 minute scene turned out!

Cunneen's will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but if you want a great alternative that's really nowhere near us, but we're sure will be worth the effort- our pals at Lake Effect Brewing Company LLC will be open! They have lots of great stuff going on all week, including tomorrow! We hope everyone has a Happy and safe holiday!

FILMING ANNOUNCEMENT!

This Monday, August 18th a small local film crew will be at Cunneen's to shoot a scene for independent feature film HEKLA by director and longtime Rogers Park resident Michael Glover Smith. They will need extras to watch a monologue performance and then clap enthusiastically afterwards. Filming should begin around 5:30pm and conclude roughly around midnight. A release will need to be signed in order to appear in the movie. We encourage you to join us for this unique and exciting experience!

HEKLA is a spinoff of the 2022 critically acclaimed family drama RELATIVE https://m.facebook.com/RelativeMovie/, which was shot entirely in Rogers Park and Smith describes as his "love letter to Rogers Park." Cunneen's is happy to be a part of this neighborhood continuation and would love for any of our customers who want to be involved to do so.
