We're Open For Lunch!
Happy Labor Day! How about a tasty Oklahoma Theta Burger for the Holiday? Available as a lunch special (Theta Burger, fried, and a soft drink) for $12.99 from 11:30 AM - 2:00 PM.
Story: Ahhh, the refreshing Regional Burger origin story- never a consensus to be found! As almost all Regional Burgers go, the origins of this burger aren’t certain. Some attribute the origin to a grocery store in Norman; George Motz, author of Hamburger America and The Great American Burger Book, attributes its origins to Ralph Geist, owner of Town Tavern at the corner of Boyd Street and Asp Avenue in Norman. Others credit Split-T restaurant in Oklahoma City (owned by Johnnie Hynes, who later opened Johnnie’s Charcoal Broiler, which is still operating today - and yes, you can get a Theta Burger there).
Wherever the burger got its start, it seems everyone agrees that the burger was named after the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Variations of the story all agree that the sorority would frequent [fill in the blank] and order a burger with sauce, mayonnaise, pickles, and cheese and after several years of ordering the Theta Burger was born!
The Build: It’s a simple burger build, and the secret is all In the sauce! Start with a fresh beef patty, on the top bun (not toasted), sliced dill pickles, mayonnaise, signature hickory sauce, and a heaping pile of shredded cheddar cheese!
BP Spin: Of course, we’re smashing this puppy! Smash two fresh all-beef patties on the flattop. Those patties are placed directly onto house-made pickles and house-made aioli on the bottom bun (no toasting here!). Shredded cheddar cheese is generously piled on top of each of the hot patties to melt. Finally, the burger is doused with our own house-made hickory sauce and the top bun is added to complete this masterpiece!
The Oklahoma Theta Burger is available all September long, and nothing washes down this burger better than a half liter of Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier!
“T-T-H, T-H-E-T-A, Think Theta!”
Cheers!
