Jay Warren to receive Honorary Street Sign at the Portage Theater

Friends and family, members of Chicago’s arts and entertainment community, and the Six Corners community will come together to honor the life and legacy of Jay Warren, a longtime community advocate, arts leader, preservationist, and former operator of both the historic Portage Theater and the Gateway Theatre, now home to the Copernicus Foundation.

A founding member of the Silent Film Society of Chicago and an accomplished organist who accompanied silent films nationwide, Warren dedicated his life to preserving history, supporting local businesses and the arts, and strengthening the neighborhood he loved. His kindness, integrity, and commitment to the community have left a lasting impact that will be felt for generations to come.

The honorary street sign ceremony will include remarks from 45th Ward Alderman Jim Gardiner and Portage Theater owner Chris Bauman, followed by the official unveiling of the honorary street sign honoring Jay Warren.

The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Portage Theater, 4058 N. Milwaukee Avenue, and is open to the public.

Immediately following the ceremony, a special Silent Film Society of Chicago reception will be held at the Six Corners Chamber of Commerce office at 4054 N Milwaukee. All are welcome to attend.
