Last night I had one of those moments as a dad that I know I’ll carry with me forever.
I watched Liam at Reggie’s play Gary Moore’s “Still Got the Blues,” and when he hit that solo, for those few minutes everything else just disappeared.
He wasn’t just playing the notes. Somehow, this young man found the soul of the blues. He felt it. And watching him completely lose himself in that guitar was something I can’t really put into words.
I know I’m hard on him sometimes. Probably harder than I need to be. But it’s because I want his life to be better than mine. I want him to work hard, find his way, and find something in this world that he truly loves.
And last night, I got to watch him do exactly that.
Nobody has to tell this kid to pick up his guitar. He plays because he loves it. It brings him peace. It brings him joy. And after all those hours of hearing that guitar coming from his room, last night I got to see where all of it has been going.
Man, it got me. I had tears in my eyes standing there, and I’m getting teary-eyed again writing this.
It was more than being proud of how well my son played. It was just a special moment between a father and his son, even if he didn’t realize it was happening.
And to have that moment on my birthday weekend made it that much more special.
So thank you, son. Thank you for giving your dad a moment I’ll never forget.
I love you, buddy. I’m so damn proud of you.
And for everybody who was there last night, enjoy this one with me. ❤️🎸
