The downtown fire on Sunday the 6th has been in the news, but a story that has been missed and really needs to be told is the actions of Officer Thompson of the Chestertown PD. When Officer Thompson arrived, the fire had spread to the apartments next to the bakery. No one knew if residents were inside or not, but Officer Thompson went towards the flames, he went in the first apartment that was starting to be engulfed by flames, went to the 2nd floor and dragged out one of our employees, who after 2 visits to the emergency room was happily in a pain killer induced sleep. Without Officer Thompsons actions, there is a reasonable chance we would be mourning Johhny Gazpacho instead of celebrating Officer Thompson. Chestertown PD has had a rough couple of weeks here on FB, so I think it is important to recognize, praise and celebrate success and bravery when it happens in front of us.

We offer our heartfelt gratitude to Steve Quigg of The Kitchen at the Imperial for his incredibly kind and generous support of the Chestertown Jazz Festival.

Steve’s generosity has gone far beyond his donation. Over the years, he has graciously welcomed us to The Kitchen at the Imperial for our meetings, always making us feel at home with his incredible food, wonderful drinks, and warm hospitality. We truly looked forward to every meeting—not only because of the work we were doing, but because Steve made each gathering something special.

As we celebrate our 30th and final Chestertown Jazz Festival, we want Steve to know how very much his friendship, generosity, hospitality, and support have meant to us.

Thank you, Steve, for opening your doors to us, taking such wonderful care of us, and being such an important part of our Jazz Festival family. We are truly grateful. ❤️🎷
