🇺🇸 Remembering 9/11 — 25 Years Later

This week, your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters were honored to stand alongside our community to remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001 — including the 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Cherry Hill Fire Department proudly hosted Cherry Hill Township's official 9/11 Ceremony at the September 11th Monument at CHFD Headquarters, gathering our members with township officials, Cherry Hill Police Department officers, and many community residents to pay tribute to the fallen and reflect on the courage, unity, and resilience that rose from that day.

Later, our firefighters took part in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Jefferson Health Cherry Hill Hospital organized by the Cherry Hill West High School Air Force JROTC. Our members and other participants climbed 1,067 steps, representing the number of first responders who lost their lives that day, as well as those who have since passed away from illnesses related to their service and exposure following the attacks.

As always, we also honor and thank the many members of the Cherry Hill Fire Department — past and present — who responded directly to the World Trade Center site in the aftermath of the attacks or supported response efforts in some other way. Your service, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten.

We are proud to stand alongside our community in keeping these memories and legacies alive.

Your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters remember FF Anthony Sambucini, #22, who served in the Cherry Hill Fire Department from 12/2/85 to 11/30/10 and died on this date in 2013.

🔥🇺🇸 Proud to be Union Firefighters Honoring the Legacy of Labor Day! 🇺🇸🔥

Your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters were honored to have representatives on hand, as well as be a sponsor, of the annual Peter J. McGuire Labor Day Observance and Scholarship Breakfast, a cherished South Jersey tradition hosted by the Southern New Jersey Central Labor Council.

This year's event held on Friday, September 4, 2026 in Collingswood united regional labor leaders, union members, and political representatives, including Governor Mikie Sherrill, to celebrate the rights of workers and the vital role of unions in the labor movement.

As we gathered to honor Peter J. McGuire, the “Father of Labor Day,” we reflected on the dedication and perseverance that have shaped the labor movement. His legacy reminds us that when workers unite, we are stronger together.

Our commitment as union firefighters extends beyond the firehouse; we stand in solidarity with all workers fighting for better working conditions and rights. This Labor Day, let us honor those who came before us and continue to build a brighter future for all!

Delays in new firefighting apparatus and parts deliveries, along with dramatically rising costs, are affecting fire departments nationwide. The Cherry Hill Fire Department faces these same challenges, with fire trucks that are often older than the firefighters operating them.

Our CHFD Motor Maintenance mechanics, proud members of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2663 alongside your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters, work tirelessly to keep our fleet operational and serving our community. However, these soaring costs and multi-year apparatus delivery delays remain a growing concern for fire departments everywhere. We thank the IAFF for their continued advocacy on this critical issue at the national level.

In the summer of 2023, a third of the fire engines owned by the fire department in Kansas City, Kansas, were unusable. Five of 15 pumper trucks were out of commission, and the department was waiting on parts from the manufacturer. So Kansas City fire officials went on a nationwide hunt for trucks. B...

🚒🚒 Fallen Tree Brings Down Live Power Lines, Igniting Several Vehicles 🚒🚒

On Monday afternoon, August 4, 2026, your "B" Platoon Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters from Rescue Ladder 13, Engine 1322, and Battalion 13 responded to Frontage Road in the area of The Grand Apartment buildings for a reported tree down which also took down live electrical wires and ignited several vehicles on fire.

✅ All vehicles were thankfully unoccupied.
✅ There are no reported injuries.

We'd like to remind the public:

⚠️ Stay far away from downed power lines — always assume they are live and dangerous.
⚠️ If you see downed lines or sparking wires, call 9-1-1 immediately.
⚠️ Never attempt to move a downed line or touch anything it's in contact with.

🚒🚑 Retirement of Assistant Fire Chief Tim McGeady 🚒🚑

After more than 36 years of dedicated service to the fire service and 32 years of career service with the Cherry Hill Fire Department, Assistant Fire Chief Timothy A. McGeady will retire from active duty effective August 1, 2026. His last day with the department is today Friday, July 31st.

Chief McGeady's journey began in May 1990 as a volunteer with the Deer Park Fire Company and on August 15, 1994, he made history as the first full-time Firefighter hired within the newly consolidated Cherry Hill Fire Department. He retires today as the most senior uniformed member of the department.

Your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters congratulate Chief McGeady on a truly distinguished career and thank him for his decades of service to our union, department, and community.
